The purpose of this post is to kick off this newsletter and introduce myself! I’m not sure yet where the sweet spot is between frequency and consistency, but I imagine it’s something like this:
To start off, though:
My name’s Peter,
or, if you please, pd:
pronounced “petey,”
a nickname for Peter
(but also they’re my initials).
Where are you from?
I was born in central Florida, and I was raised from 2nd to 12th grades in Managua, Nicaragua (it’s complicated— explanations and reflections forthcoming).
I’m not Latiné, but I do identify as bicultural, and I speak fluent Nicaraguan Spanish (an important distinction— these details will also play into future reflections in this newsletter).
What do you do?
Lots! Right now, I’m pursuing a double master’s at the University of Alabama: one in Journalism in the School of Communication and Information Sciences, and one in Creative Writing (Poetry) at the School of Arts and Sciences.
My research interests are pretty broad, however— I spent two hours making a diagram of them yesterday, and it’s not exhaustive (especially in the area of literature). I started this newsletter as a way to track what I’m thinking about over the next couple of years, and I’m so happy you’re joining me.
What can I expect from this newsletter?
I’m committing this to you, dear reader:
Once-a-week posts: they’ll vary in subject, usually, but will probably remain within this range:
Ideations around the areas of poetry, media, ethics, and current events (thought processes, reflections, etc.).
Content created in those categories: poems and translations, features and profiles, etc.
Much of the above will be available to any reader, but as this platform grows, I hope to provide exclusive content to paying subscribers, though, at the time of this writing, I’m nowhere near that point yet.
Thanks for reading this far!
I’m looking forward to having you on this journey.
Soon,
